AI, work and productivity
It is more accurate to discuss the transformation of tasks than the automatic disappearance of professions. The useful question is which activities workers actually begin delegating to AI, and how that delegation changes productivity and organisation.
Which jobs will change most with artificial intelligence?
Jobs involving many information tasks will change most: administration, analysis, communications, document research, customer service, programming and some creative professions. It is more accurate to discuss the transformation of tasks than the automatic disappearance of professions. From a behavioural perspective, Sociometrica is interested in measuring which activities workers actually begin delegating to AI and how that delegation changes productivity and organisation.
Will AI create or destroy jobs?
It will probably do both. Some tasks will be automated, others will become more productive and new activities will emerge. The net effect will depend on adoption speed, investment, training and organisations’ ability to redesign processes. Useful research should therefore go beyond asking how many jobs will disappear to analyse which tasks change, which skills gain value and how workers and businesses actually respond.
How can AI increase productivity?
It can reduce the time needed to find information, write, program, analyse data, manage documents and perform administrative tasks. But a faster tool does not automatically guarantee greater organisational productivity. Processes and responsibilities need redesigning. Sociometrica can develop original research here: measuring not only who uses AI, but how much time is saved and how that time is actually reused.
